Pre-29 coming home

I've owned a number of 29-2s and 629s, and currently have a -3. I've not owned a pre-model before and had to jump at the chance! The pics on the site weren't the best, so I'll see what it looks like when it gets to town.

Gonna letter this one....

Congrats, you will enjoy it.
Here is mine I picked up about a year ago. Probably 90% so definitely not a safe queen.
Paid two grand, but 5-screw, 4-inch, and turned out to be 1st year, so I thought a good price.

Those are hard to come by! Not too many first year 4 inchers out there. Really nice gun!

Well this is dang fascinating! My incoming is a duplicate serial number according to the records. S174281 shipped either in June or August to one of two locations (the advantage of being an SWCA member!).

Anyone here have the duplicate? Sure would be fun to have Truly matching .44s!

Congratulations A10! The five and four screw 44 Magnums are my favorites.

I hope maybe you will share some more photos after you get it home.

While we waiting for your pictures, here are a pair of 4" 4-screw pre-29s...

I was watching that one as well just to see what it sold for and as a comparison to the one I bought a few months back, close in serial number range.

Really looking forward to the pictures when it arrives. And a range report too!

I thought it was a fair price, particularly given what -2s are going for in my area. And there will definitely be a range report! Most likely with some good specials initially, and I might swap the Cokes out for a bit to send them off for repair. I'm sure you saw the chip on the heel that splintered.

I agree on the price, pretty fair in todays market. I paid $75 more for mine.

I also forgot to mention that I thought the pictures could have been better in the auction as well, however the finish on these make them tough to photograph, they are so shiny and hard not to get glare.

I did notice that chip as well, very unfortunate, but not unexpected considering the age, my Cokes are not perfect either.

I have put 156 rounds through mine so far, matter of fact I loaded up some Special velocity loads to start with as well, the first I have ever loaded for .44 mag. Also have put 83 rounds of 1,200 FPS loads with a my cast 250 gr Keith slug.

I think the bad pics contributed to my ability to win. I'll learn more when it gets in the door though!

A 250 at 1200 is plenty of steam! I have a couple hundred 300 hardcasts and I'm thinking 1000 fps will be plenty with those. I have 100 cases prepped and ready to be primed, just haven't decided on the powder charge. H110 and 296 have been my go-to for some time but there's newer stuff out there I might try.
