I'm sure everyone has heard it by now, but the US Air Force has just completed bombing raids against three separate sites inside Iran. I'm not certain what authority the President used to order this attack, but here it is regardless. He made the announcement on Truth Social but it is Topic #1 on all news media.

Anything I say more than this will feel too political, so I will just pass along the news for now and see what else happens.

It's too bad that President Reagan didn't take care of things back in the 80s.

In my lifetime, which began in 1979, most of the wars the US has been involved in were bad choices. Bad to be in, or how things were handled leadership wise was bad.

However, Iran has been one nation in needing of dealing with in a major way. The first of two nations we should have done something militarily in.

Mexico being the only other nation we have not dealt with properly as well. It's unfortunate that Mexico has devolved into cartel controlled regions, including the "government".

To be fair, I don't know what the end-goal in either nation would be. Aside from toppling the corrupt regimes/groups. How do we stop another group from popping up and doing the same things? Some situations are just ones without simple answers. Leaving things as is just isn't the answer.

Personally I believe it was long overdue! There will always be a bully-country in the world because that is just human nature. Unfortunately every few decades one country or another has to try and put their influence all over the world. Thankfully someone did something about it - now they will try and remove him - that will start on Monday. Oh - what a world we live in!

The real war is on our own home front and that is our greatest battle now. Don't know if we will survive. Nikita Khrushchev was correct - America will destroy itself from within. Unfortunately great countries have a habit of doing that!

My question has been for years now why it has taken so long for us to decide to finally do this.

This is a nation subjugated by a fanatical theocracy (from a sect that believes that only an Armageddon brought about their actions can initiate their salvation) who has been howling "Death to America" for decades. Decades during which they have been killing Americans through terrorism and thousands of Americans in Afghanistan with their advanced IEDs.

The same fanatics howling Death To America, regularly killing Americans through those years, ever closer to finally having a nuclear weapon.

I expect and understand that there will be handwringers out there terrified that Iran already has that bomb and perhaps the ability to use it to strike us. Just as others will say they suspect this is BS from the Israelis; there is no Iran nuclear weapon program and this psy-ops Israel successfully used to get us to take out a war Israel started. (As though Israel somehow or other started Irans unending attacks on Israel through proxy terrorist groups)

For me the bottom line is this: Iran's Mad Mullahs have been screaming Death To America while planning and killing Americans for enough years. How many hundreds, thousands of dead Americans (and our allies) does it take to decide it is time to put an end to it?

When a government of theological fanatics keeps telling you they're going to kill you while doing just that to hundreds of your citizens through both terrorism and war - we're well past the time for putting an end to it.

While all the time our governments continue to hope that not only does Iran not actually want a nuclear bomb, but if they had one there's no way they'd put one in the hands of terrorists with the ability to get it inside our borders to detonate. That's a self-delusional charade.

This should have been put an end to long ago, not just when we knew they were working to develop nuclear weapons.

Better to have a president putting an end to the threat, than having to have a president later having the job of responding when the threat ultimately became a devastating attack.

Would we have had 9/11 and Bush having to respond if Clinton had reduced bin Ladin to room temperature several years before that when he had the chance to? You can't prove a negative, but we had a chance to take out bin Ladin and then go after his organization but we chose not to do that.
Because Iran's cyber capabilities are pretty advanced, and the U.S.'s power grid is catastrophically outdated and vulnerable.
A succesful cyberattack against U.S. infrastructure has the potential to result in far more death than any nuclear attack Iran could be capable of.
North Korea is guilty of exactly the same threats, and actually has detonated nuclear weapons. When are we going to start dropping bombs on them?
Not to mention Iran's allies include Russia and China, both countries that we have been deferential to for various reasons until recently.

Something major just happened behind the scenes. My guess is that Israel has uncovered some major intelligence during their searches and interrogations related to Gaza, prompting immediate action. Now, whether that evidence was fabricated or overblown remains to be seen.

Well, so much for a 2 week waiting period. No doubt a strategy to lull them to sleep. I have no problem with what was done. The world cannot have another North Korea, which by the way is a decades old major intelligence failure coupled with failure on the part of every administration since 1953 to do something about the smoldering problem on that peninsula. The fat cheese eating rat ******* with the bad haircut can now put a nuke through your bedroom window. Of course according to our intelligence, he was always 10 years away from nuclear capability. He is in poor health, but don't wish him dead, his sister is worse.

WORD of warning. This topic is important but if it leads to political comments (which it has already), it will be shut down. If you are dying to make your feelings known on what our politicians did or did not do, go find a political forum. There has to be hundreds of them. This is a GUN forum.

Attorney Alan Dershowitz (sp?) has a book about situations like this and what resulted from inaction by the rest of the world. Not only a fine legal mind, but not a raving political figure. Like a lot of critical thinkers, not in favor with those whose positions he doesn't support.
