Lawn Mowed.

Wife and I have mowed our lawn together since we've been married. This spring, after the third cutting, we were comparing our aches and pains. I said to her to call a local lawn service and put us on their mowing schedule. One of the smartest things I've done since retiring.

Just finished. I have found that if I stop halfway and scrape the "80% cow dung" from under the mower deck it goes faster. Rained buckets yesterday so "wet" doesn't quite get it. Joe

My 1st home was on a city lot. Liked mowing until I got older and had a difficult time with mowing, so we hired a yard maintenance service.
After moving to the "country" and getting a house with 2 1/2 acres, we bought a riding mower which I could use Now after several foot surgeries and losing 7 1/2 toes, the Dr. said no to my mowing, even with the rider. My wife, being a farm girl, loves to mow and has taken on the chore along with all the other yard duties.
I miss being able to mow with the rider and helping out with all the duties of owning a home.

I use a self-propelled 21-inch lawn mower. The yard seems to get larger and steeper every year. Takes about 45 minutes to do the whole thing. I have a small JD lawn tractor mower but only use it a couple of times a year. It is just between being big enough for the tractor and too big for the self-propelled. It's about a 3rd of an acre. At some point I will have to move to the tractor, but for now I can still do it and need the exercise.

I use a 24 hp 48" cut rider, and it takes me 1.5 - 2 hours to mow mine. (The goats take care of the back yard.) I prefer to wait until late afternoon when the grass is dry and the pine trees shade more than half the yard. At 83, that's about all I can say grace over. Before you ask why I don't let the goats do the front yard, I'll guess you've never owned goats.

I have a "yard' rather than a lawn. My yard can't be seen from the road. In the summer I mow it about once a month whether it needs it or not. When I get on the 48" cut, zero turn, I am in the saddle for about six hours. I am glad when it is over. I would rather be doing more important things like mashing my buns.

Japanese beetle grubs destroyed my back lawn for the 2nd time in 5 years ,so I put down 3” of mulch instead. They’ll starve without grass roots to eat.My front takes about 30 mins to mow 😊

I gave away my push mower several years ago. I have a couple John Deere riders and if things get tough I use my 8N Ford and six foot finish mower.

The weather here in NEPA has been bizarro world. No rain in April with lots of brush fires (fun times, not!) May made up for the lack of rain with a vengance. June has had record high and record low temps.I think I mowed 3, maybe 4 times this year? Parts of the lawn just don't seem to dry anymore.

I'll mow tomorrow, hope the weather gods smile upon me for a change.

Mowing is my zen time, a time to reflect on the past and contemplate the future or just think about nothing and listen to music.
This is part of the 6 acres that I mow out of 9 acres. Mowing time is down to less than 2.5 hours now with a 28hp 61-inch deck Simplicity Cobalt zero turn. 37 years ago, when I bought the place, mowing took 9 hours with a 42-inch 16hp lawn tractor.

Snow, for many years was taken care of with a pickup with a plow, but now I use a JD 425 with a heated cab and 47-inch snowblower. Some years I ran out of places to push the snow with the plow, with the snowblower I don't have that problem and I don't have to rake all the gravel out of the lawn and back onto the driveway.

My small yard only takes me about 45 minutes to mow, trim, and blow. I've had EGO battery powered equipment for 7 years now. This year the capacity of my batteries was so low that I had to buy a couple of new ones. I can mow, trim, and blow the entire yard on one battery, but I like to have a backup just in case.

Sadly, last week the self propel feature of my mower quit working, so it's now a push mower. I figure repairing it will probably cost nearly as much as a new one. I'd try it myself, but I'm uncertain whether it's the drive motor, the switch, or the control board that's bad. From my research it could be any of those or just frayed wiring somewhere in between.

I've mowed a couple times since, and I'm still uncertain if I;m going to replace it or just wait until it quits entirely. It still mows well. There are two motors - one for mowing and a smaller one for the self propel.
