Buying a model 69 combat

I enjoy the 69 in both models. L frame carry ability with 5 rounds of 44 Mag. I find it recoils less than my old Pre 29 5 inch. As the bore sits lower in the hand. Use a 250 SWC at 1120fps it's all I need for woods walking. Very, very accurate from 200 grain XTPs to full bore 44 Mags. Brian Pearce of Handloader Magazine put 5K 44 Mag rounds through a 69 with out appreciable wear.

Best 44 Special load I have for the 69 or any Special larger than the CAs is 240-250 gr LSWC, 8 grains of Power Pistol and standard primer for 950fps out of a 4" barrel. 7/8" 5 shot goup at 50 ft offhand. 17K pressure. What's not to like?

As much as I like wood stocks, rubber does soften the felt recoil of the big magnum caliber revolvers.

Agreed. (y)

My wood grips are for dress-up & the rubber grips are for range day fun. ;)

I like the Pachmayr Diamond Pro grips for extended shooting. Nice & cushie but not too big around.

I included a sample comparison chart to show the velocity difference between a M69 2-3/4" -vs- M629 5" Classic

As stated, great pistol with Specials or light magnums. It’s a tad rough with full boat magnums, but a warm .44 Special is a pretty good thumper. I load light loads in magnum cases and they work great. 180 and 200 grain hardcast are 👍
