First revolver in over a decade as noted here:

Haven’t owned a revolver in over a decade

Picked up this 36 today, second Smith arrived via USPS 15 minutes after I left the store. Guess I’ll go again tomorrow. Price was better than anything I was finding locally in the pawn shops. Photos online didn’t look great but it cleaned up a good bit with just a wipe down. I’ll polish it up a bit and give it a thorough cleaning after shooting it a bit this weekend.

SN is J260261 if any of yall would be so kind until I can get a book for myself.

That is a nice-looking gun!

I bought my first Model 36 last year. I absolutely love it! I have big hands, and at first the grip was a little scary. But, I got used to three-fingering it. I put a Wolf spring kit in it and that improved the trigger pull quite a bit. Within 10 yards, I can hit a pie-plate consistently, which is all you can ask for a snubby. I have recently began carrying my Chief's Special in a pocket holster. Loaded to max level for .38 (not +P) with five 125 gr. JHPs, with ten more in speed strips in the other pocket, I don't feel undergunned in a close-quarters encounter. Not only that, but in a good pocket holster you can't even tell I'm carrying it and it is comfortable all day, unlike my previous autos in an IWB holster.

Enjoy it!

Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.

Nice looking Chiefs Special. Congrats.

A little Flitz and a light touch will make it look new.

Based on a few others that bracket yours in the database I'd say
S&W probably shipped yours in 1974.
