I recently acquired a 6 inch model 14 no dash. Target hammer but not trigger. It's serial number appears to place it as a 1960 date of manufacture gun. It is in maybe 98-99 percent condition with a small turn ring and one other slight mark where the bluing is rubbed through (smaller than a pinhead just behind the hammer). It is beautiful and obviously shot very little. The grips are in flawless condition.
That is my main question with it. The serial number is k408xxx. It's a 4 screw. The target grips have the diamond but no cutout "football." I'm wondering if s&w might have used leftover stocks on this gun as it seems the no-cutout stocks ended a few years earlier? There is no writing or stamps on the inside of the grips. Could these be original?
No box unfortunately with this one, and I got it for a fairly reasonable price. Is there anything you folks can tell me about value and the stock originality question? Or anything else relevant to the gun which i didn't list above?
Also I figured some folks may want to see it. I know it's not rare, but it sure is pretty.
