Ok gang -

Before X-mas, I made 3-4 productive trips to the LGS after they had acquired a 100+ S&W gun collection. I had posted some 3 inch round butt SS beauties already, so adding another trip here, this time the common theme is 6 inch full lug in blue?

All four came with boxes, so I have the product codes and details (if someone else is interested to compare notes) - I wanted to share some pics as there are a couple of 'rarer' ones...

1. 686-3 Midnight Black SS - initially I thought the store had made a mistake mislabeling a 586, but no...it was indeed a 686, as called out in the SWSC - product code, specs, etc. Hard to see on the pic, but it is indeed matte, very very dark gray. It looks odd in a way of not being the classic shiny blue, nor the modern black look of the newer S&Ws...

2. 586-3 137 Years (1852-1989)...everything else looks like a normal 586, no special brochures in the box aside from the standard ones... Label has a product code #103545, and under the features it has 'SPECIAL' - I assume this to designate the 'anniversary'....I could not find any info on this gun anywhere - does anyone know anything more about it? I will drop a note to Jim Supica with the label picture so he can include in the next SWSC as a variation.

3. 586 (no dash) - nothing rare here to see, I just fell in love with the SB CS. This one does not have the factory 'M' stamp, I do not plan to send it back; came with the old two piece blue box, probably some of the last ones sent with those two piece boxes.

4. 17-6 with full lug - again nothing rare to see but since it also had the SB CS, I thought I would include along the 586 above, as a way to compare a full lug K frame to the L frame SBs wrapped in the desirable Combat Stocks.

Cheers folks! Feel free to add any more info on any of those!

They made the 686-3 Midnight Black in four inch also.

Yes, I read they had the 4 inch as well, both made in 1988-89 range. Mine came with the one piece cardboard box, and the new label - see attached. On mine, the finish is designated as 'M'

I would guess the label you have next to yours may not be original (this label type was used on the older two piece boxes) - but I would not know for sure.

I also noted yours had the gold inlays which mine did not have, so possible they had some variations...
