It takes a big man to admit a mistake. Like you, my initial thought was legalize it, let freedom have at it and let people decide for themselves. I still feel that way, but my fellow Americans are making poor choices with all that Freedom and were starting to look like the Middle east when it comes to civil engagement.I'm not sure exactly how to say this and I'm pretty sure it's going to start a fight so my apologies.
When Colorado put legalizing weed on the ballot I voted in favor. I did so because I thought that people should make their own decisions. The measure passed by less than 20 votes.
And IMO it absolutely destroyed Colorado.
Our homeless population skyrocketed. People came from all over the country for "Free weed". I'm not sure where that idea got started but I'm telling you a bunch of the people that I ran into at work thought that they were going to be able to have free weed in Colorado.
Our crime rate went up because the cartels moved in here and they started growing weed legally and illegally for shipment to the rest of the country.
The government looked at weed as a cash cow. Every time they wanted to pass a measure they raised the tax on weed to fund it.
What's that actually did was create a situation where the elicit dealers could raise the price on their product significantly and still undercut the legal weed stores. And once weed is in a jar at your house the cops can't prove you didn't buy it from Maggie's Farm.
Weed is an all cash business because the banks won't touch it. Weed dealers get robbed. Weed Dealers get busted for income tax evasion. Quite a few of the "dispensaries" in Colorado Springs have gone bankrupt and gone out of business.
And people still think legalized weed is the best thing that ever happened to Colorado
Same with me. never have, never will."Legal" here in Missouri, but not federally so you can't use it and own guns. Seems to me like it would be easy to get caught up in a Federal net at some point...never tried pot, never will.
Here in Florida, you get to try it at every traffic light, whether you want to or not.Same with me. never have, never will.

My niece and her hubby moved out of Colorado. I think that it had as much to do with the oppressive gun laws as legalized marijuana. From what I've been reading we are just starting to learn about the problems with marijuana. Pot heads always make the loudest noise in promoting it. Per your post, I wonder if the cartels also have influence?I'm not sure exactly how to say this and I'm pretty sure it's going to start a fight so my apologies.

Really? I don't think I have ever smelled it when out driving around the Tampa Bay area. Here in Florida, you get to try it at every traffic light, whether you want to or not.
